Dedication of the Bust of Raoul Wallenberg
Artist: Miri Margolin
Place: U.S. Capitol, Washington D.C USA
Opening: November 2, 1995

In 1994, Congress adopted House Concurrent Resolution 222, “to accept a bust of Raoul Wallenberg and to place the bust in an appropriate location in the Capitol.” This was done as an additional honor to the World War II Swedish diplomat who saved the lives of tens of thousands of Jews during the summer of 1944, commemorating the 50th anniversary of his rescue mission.

The sculpture was done by Miri Margolin, created out of bronze. She agreed to do it after meeting the half brother of Raoul Wallenberg at a tribute in Tel Aviv, later receiving photographs of the Holocaust Hero to create the bust after. The donor of this bust was Lillian Hoffman, who gave it for placement in the Capitol several years after its completion. After the unveiling by Wallenberg’s half sister Nina Lagergren, Annette Lantos, Miri Margolin, and Lillian Hoffman, it has stood as a tribute for all those who visit the Capitol to see that one man with the curage to care can make a difference.
